Dear Alumni,

How memories fly by. With the fifty inches of snow that we have had this past winter and the weeping and wailing of the locals, I was reminded of the winters we had in the 1940s and how cold it seemed at Charlotte Hall, which, as you remember, was in the absolute middle of nowhere. Our memories are tailored to meet our own requirements, such as the five miles I had to walk to school each day up hill, both ways.

I must admit that I resurrected the letter I wrote two years ago for guidance. I came up with some conclusions that indicated that although the world around us is ever changing, the world relevant to Charlotte Hall is still mired in the time warp of 1976. Our mission has not changed and our pleas to support that mission are still as important as they were two years ago.

In a very measurable way we have stayed the course of our mission --- that of increasing the value of our roster and its accuracy, brought forward in great measure by our board president, John Drury. While it is true that many on the board have helped, the main thrust has been John's. Our mission to have a biennial meeting is again under the fine intuitive hand of Jim Hodges. I feel certain that Jim will again use the

same fine group of people to help him as he did four years ago. The sum total of these efforts are those we outlined two years ago:

"You will have the opportunity to meet alumni that were not at school during your tenure, rekindle old friendships that have severed, and you will have an opportunity to continue the thread of the school for many years. Charlotte Hall Military Academy was a unique place and it deserves your participation."

We need any help you can render. We are a small group with decreasing numbers, but don't for a minute think you do not have talents that will be an asset to the "old school.' Call, write, or e-mail to the address in the web site (www.chma.org) and ask how you can help and/or tell us about your particular skills. We have need of you.

For Charlotte Hall,

Ernest Green ‘49
